The rebuild has begun for the Owen Sound Attack who shipped veteran defensemen Matt Petgrave and Geoffrey Schemitsch to Oshawa on Saturday for blue liner Kyle Hope and two second-round picks.
Hope is a year younger than the two departing blue liners and gives Owen Sound a 20 year old, a nineteen year old, an 18 year old, two 17 year olds, and a 16 year old on the blue line.
That’s good for the future but tough for this year so look for Jay Gilbert and Keevin Cutting to play a lot of minutes for the next three months.
Owen Sound may not end up trading overage goalie Scott Stajcer now as it needs solid goaltending with such a young blue line.
And it means that the rebuild could be over in a season as everyone but three players can return next year.
